Palak Diam provides a vast array of well-assorted round brilliant polished diamonds ranging from 0.001 to 1.00 carats. This includes ‘minus 2’ sieve sizes, ‘stars’ (+2-6.5 sieves), ‘melee’ (+6.5-11 sieves), plus +11 and +14 sieve sizes, and larger sizes. Our assortment standards are very precise, and graded according to GIA standards, ranging from D-Z in color and IF-I3 in clarity.

The original “round brilliant” cut was developed by Marcel Tolkowsky in 1919. The modern round brilliant consists of 57/58 facets.The round brilliant cut diamond is by far the most popular and most researched diamond shape available today. From the graceful, feminine curve of the pear shape to the clean crisp lines of an emerald cut, “fancy shapes” provide a diverse departure from the traditional round brilliant, which is the most common diamond shape. Shape is personal, so there is a great deal of subjectivity in defining the beauty of fancy cuts. The most common shapes of fancy cut diamonds and other stones include: the Princess, Emerald, Asscher, Marquise, Oval, Radiant, Pear, Heart, and Cushion.
Originally adorned by royalty from Europe to India and the Far East, fancy shapes have pedigrees that date back centuries and embrace many diverse cultures. For example, the “baguette” shape, French for a small rod, came to the fore during the early 20th century Art Deco and Art Nouveau movements. The background of the “marquise” shaped diamond (aka ‘navette-cut’ diamond) is very interesting. It is believed that the Sun King, Louis the XIV wanted a diamond to be cut like the smile of his mistress, Marquise de Pompadour. The “pear shape” diamond (aka ‘teardrop’) was highly popular during the Renaissance period. Lodewyk (Louis) van Berquem of Brugge of Belgium created the first pear shaped diamond in 1458. The possibilities for fancies are as unique as the individual who chooses to wear them, and there are a myriad of combinations that can make for beautiful cuts.

“Fancy colored” diamonds are extremely rare stones. Approximately one out of every 10,000 naturally produced diamonds are considered “fancy colored.” The term “fancy” was coined by the Gemological Institute of America to distinguish between natural-color polished diamonds which display color and white diamonds. Fancy colored diamonds increase in value the more saturated they are with color. Whereas white diamonds are graded using D-Z scale, fancy colored diamonds are graded based on the degree to which the diamonds are saturated with color. In the 1970s, the GIA developed a grading scale for fancy color diamonds. Fancy color diamonds are not referred to by letters but by the degree of saturation present in the stone. The color saturation is graded as follows: faint, very light, light, fancy light, fancy, fancy dark, fancy intense, fancy deep or fancy vivid. Fancy color diamonds come in a wide array of colors, including yellow diamonds, pink diamonds, orange diamonds, blue diamonds, pink diamonds, red diamonds, black diamonds, and purple diamonds, among others.

A diamond certificate, also called a diamond grading report, is an official report created by a team of gemologists of a specific diamond grading laboratory. During the certification process, the diamond is evaluated, measured, and scrutinized using trained eyes, a jewelers loupe, a microscope, and other industry tools. A completed certificate includes an analysis of the diamonds dimensions, clarity, color, polish, symmetry, and other individual characteristics. Although diamonds have been sought after and admired for thousands of years, only at the beginning of the 20th century did chemistry and other sciences advance to the point that objective, scientific grading of diamonds and other gemstones was made possible.
